Tom was able to accomplish this monumental feat with the help of Alice, a supercomputer robot with almost human abilities.

While trying to find the people responsible for murdering his friend Tom, Matthew realizes he is the prime suspect. Matthew must flee for his life with the help of Dr. Sarah Larsson, a colleague and reluctant helper who has a secret of her own. Matthew never wavers in his quest for the truth and perseveres against all the odds. He must race to stop a major catastrophe, ratcheting up the excitement until the thrilling conclusion. The Face Transplant is a powerful medical suspense thriller of the first order. The novel was written by a surgeon. The novel has a realism that only a surgeon can bring. The plot weaves politics, medicine and espionage into a tightly paced, intelligent thriller. The novels crescendos page by page to a totally unexpected conclusion.

My Thoughts:

Dr. Matthew MacAulay and his surgical team are held at gunpoint and forced to do a facial transplant of an unknown patient. Unfortunately the transplant is unsuccessful when Matthew makes an error and accidentally kills the patient by cutting an artery. Then when a colleague at another facial transplant center dies, Matthew believes that he was murdered. What he finds is a plot to bigger than he can imagine and a plot to frame him.

The Face Transplant is a suspenseful medical thriller filled with non-stop action and world-wide adventure. From California to Washington to China and the Himalayan mountains, Matthew and his assistant Sarah team together dodging both the mastermind behind the plot and the authorities who are looking for him in the murders of several people.

Undergoing a face transplant himself to avoid detection, adds to the suspense as there are certain medical restrictions that Matthew must adhere to. While having a different face may keep him safe because he’s not recognized, keeping to the medical restrictions isn’t easy when you’re on the run.

I liked the character development in this novel. Matthew, Sarah and the others that helped him were obviously good friends to keep putting themselves in harms way in order to assist him. It showed their good character and their willingness to put others before themselves.

There are many plot twists in this story that will set your head to spinning and the final big one was the winner for me. I won’t tell you what it was because that would spoil it but definitely took me by surprise. I have more I’d like to say, but I can’t, you’ll have to read it for yourself.

The Face Transplant was a fascinating medical suspense novel that I can happily suggest to fans of this genre. I gave this novel a healthy 4 stars out of 5.

Thank you to the author for providing a copy of the book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.
