Amazon Synopsis:

Includes BONUS short story “Toasting Lottie”

Four years after Roman Kincaid was catapulted into stardom as a country-western singer and A-list movie star, he is burned out: exhausted by a grueling schedule, drained by the ceaseless demands of producers and managers, weary of meeting the needs of others at the expense of his own. Leaving a sold-out show in Phoenix, he rents a car and drives north and east, landing in the Painted Desert town of Rainbow Rock.

Nearly three years after leaving her old life behind, Lottie Beale is feeding people and baking pies, managing the Kachina Café and tending secrets of her own. When circumstances conspire to give two attractive people some time alone together amid the world-class vistas of the Four Corners, they discover more than either had bargained for.

Excerpt:

Lottie broke in. “So? What now? You know my secret identity and I know yours. Shall we just go our own ways—no harm, no foul?”
He considered that. “I’m not sure. I mean, what did Batman and Catwoman do when they discovered each other’s secret identities?”
Lottie wrinkled her nose. “Try to kill each other?”
“Um, you’re right. Bad example. So whaddya think we should do?” A few interesting ideas had already occurred to Roman, but, for the moment at least, he chose to keep those to himself. “Are you thinking of mutually assured destruction? You tell my secret, I tell yours?”
“I don’t know,” Lottie said, “I think we can do better than that.”
“What then?”
“Hmmm…” She was giving him a different look now—speculative, perhaps, even conspiratorial. “It depends.”

My Thoughts:

Roman’s Holiday is a sweet romance between a burned out western singer/actor and a woman named Lottie Beale who has secrets of her own. The two of them connect on many levels and actually “get” each other more than they could possibly imagine.

This is one of those books that just make you feel good. Even when things go wrong, they work out for the best in the long run. While Lottie and Roman only know each other for a couple of weeks and discover that they are in love, they have spent almost every moment of that time together, talking and getting to know one another.

While they want to find a way to be together, neither wants to live where the other needs to live and so it seems as though they are destined to give each other up in order to carry on with their careers.

I liked the descriptions and information about the scenic and historic sites around NW Arizona area that Lottie and Roman visited.

I could understand Lottie’s trust issues given her past growing up and I was surprised that Roman was not spoiled by the wealth and fame of stardom. So it was interesting to see their relationship develop and grow. I liked that though Lottie and Roman were both very tempted, they both refrained from becoming sexually involved in order not to cause further hurt to the other since they were not going to see each other after Roman went back to California.

I gave Roman’s Holiday a rating of 4 stars out of 5. I think if you enjoy light, sweet romances, you’ll probably enjoy this one.

Thank you to the publishers for providing a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. A positive opinion was not required. All thoughts are my own.

About the Author:

Susan Aylworth started her first book when she was nine. "It was called Buff, The Proud Stallion. I wrote eight whole pages." For her fifth grade career day, she stated her ambition to become "a rich and famous author." Decades later, she is pleased to have achieved the 'author' part of that goal. A former university professor, she enjoys researching backgrounds and careers for her novels. "It's one way to live many lives all at once."

The property of a protective mutt dog and servant to two spoiled cats, she lives in northern California with her husband of 43 years and their small menagerie. She loves hanging out with her seven children, their perfect-for-them spouses and 21 grandchildren, soon to be 23. When she can't be with her blood family, she hangs with her fictional characters, the children of her mind. She has eleven books available and a 12th scheduled for publication in June 2014.

"I love travel, great music, and good raspberry jam," she says. "I especially love hearing from readers."
