Synopsis:
Gemma Hart never knows when her father is going
to whisk her back in time. Her toes start tingling and she has a few minutes to
find a secret haven where she can disintegrate and appear in another time and
place. While “across the line,” her training and skills are put to the test as
she completes a mission that will change history for the lucky few her father
has selected.
Gemma's parents are adamant that secrecy is paramount to her family’s safety. If people knew what they were capable of, they could be "used and abused", as her mother always says. Afraid she might accidentally utter the truth and break the ancient oath of her people, Gemma spends her school days as a loner. Only one thing can throw her sheltered life askew... Harrison Granger.

My Thoughts:
Gemma
Hart can travel through time. So can her sister, brother and parents.
Unfortunately, she has no control over when it happens, and when she gets that
tingling feeling, she’d better run for a private place, or she’ll disappear and
leave her clothes behind in front of everyone……and when she returns, well, she’ll
wish she had found a private place.
This
book is part adventure, part romance and all fantasy. This book was clean
romance and I loved that about it. Gemma is a loner, afraid to get close to
people because she it is forbidden for her to share her family’s secret. Consequently
she has no friends. That is, until she meets Harrison Granger. Harrison is
fascinated with Gemma and cracks through the wall she has built around herself.
They become romantically involved, but never sexually involved. Love is about
being there for the other person, not about sex.
I
really like that Melissa Pearl has the ability to weave a story, moving from one
time period to the next fluidly and easily. Her dialogue is believable and her
characters are real. I found myself wishing for the same camaraderie with my
siblings as Gemma has with her siblings. I don’t care for Mr. and Mrs. Hart
very much though. They seem a little cold, though they do tell their children
that they care for them. I like the relationship that Gemma develops with
Harrison’s family; it just feels good that she can spend time comfortably with
them every week.
And
just when you get to the end of the novel and you think that things are going
to wind up nicely… there’s another mystery.
This
was a very enjoyable novel and I would recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy
novels with clean romance. I gave this book 4 stars.
