Amazon Synopsis:

2014 GOLD Readers' Favorite for Mystery/Murder

Lex Allen, Reviewer for Readers' Favorite International Book Awards: "One often reads blurbs and reviews that talk about “fast paced”, “edge of your seat suspense” or “I couldn’t put it down.” In some cases these phrases are a bit exaggerated; in the instance of Vengeance is Mine by Harry James Krebs these phrases become understatements. This murder-mystery suspense thriller is among the very best I’ve read so far this year."

Book Review: Confirmed Diagnosis by Mary King

Confirmed Diagnosis: Book #2 in The McFadden Series
By Mary King
Publisher: Mary King
Published: May 5, 2014
ASIN: B00K5VD4KC

Amazon Synopsis:
New England and the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts provide the perfect setting for The McFadden Series, by author Mary King.

Dr. Lauren McFadden and her husband Bryan have moved on with their physical medicine careers and are enjoying their new resort-style home in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. Turning a dream into reality, they're providing a home and rehabilitation services for some very deserving young people who have special medical needs and have no place else to go.

Adam is deaf and has a seizure disorder, but it's his lively character and artistic talent that capture a lot of attention. Devon is learning to walk again after the accident that nearly took his life. What he lacks in size, he clearly makes up for with his above average intelligence. Philip seems to be coming out of his shell in spite of his abusive past, but he never has much to say and that makes it hard to tell what's going on in his mind. Once again, he's forced to relive the horrific murder/suicide of his parents when a trouble-making bully from his former school transfers to Rockwell High School.

College students Noah and Buddy have been hired to work as assistants at the estate. Buddy will spend months recovering from arm and hand injuries sustained when he was attacked in the dorm. The hate crime may cost him everything he has worked so hard to achieve if the school administration doesn't allow him to return for the fall semester. Noah is hiding more than burn scars from the tragic house fire that happened two summers ago. Dr. McFadden and Bryan go to great lengths to try and make things right again for the young man, but pushing too hard could send Noah over the edge. Meanwhile, an argument between Noah and Buddy opens the door to more than a working relationship.

Three new residents join the family. Sixteen year-old Michael arrives at the end of June after sustaining a broken neck from a motorcycle accident that left him quadriplegic. He's angry and doesn't see the point of living, especially if he can't have what he defines as a normal physical relationship with a girl. He's determined to die rather than try to survive in a world that doesn't readily accommodate individuals with profound disabilities. David Sutherland is a personable young middle school student who makes regular visits to the estate with his horse to visit Devon. He's going to need a new place to live after his father is brutally murdered and his home is destroyed by fire. Cameron Jones slips into the family rather unexpectedly. He takes a starring role in what could only be described as a Christmas miracle.

Each young man needs Dr. McFadden and Bryan's professional skills, but it's going to take more than orthopedic medicine to heal eight shattered lives. The boys all need unconditional love, understanding and patience. Hard work, laughter, tears and compassion are just a few in a long list of particulars that weave the members of the McFadden household into an unforgettable family.

ASIN: B00L0EYO0W

Amazon Synopsis:

In the vein of Harlan Coben and Lisa Gardner, Gary Gusick takes readers on an explosive ride-along with Mississippi detective Darla Cavannah, a Yankee transplant making her name in the Deep South.

After performing at a local old-folks home, off-duty police officer and part-time Elvis impersonator Tommy Reylander smoothes out his pompadour, climbs into his pink Caddy, and gets all shook up—fatally so, when a bomb explodes. Whether he was killed for his police work or bad singing is a mystery that detective Darla Cavannah is determined to solve.

Though it’s been several years since Darla (reluctantly) partnered up with Tommy, she convinces her boss to let her lead the murder investigation. As the new regional director of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, Shelby Mitchell can think of better uses for his star detective’s time, but not even the most hardened good ole boy can resist Darla’s smart, savvy persuasions. She soon embarks on a roller coaster ride through the world of Elvis tribute artists while tracking down one of the most bizarre serial killers in the history of the Magnolia State. Aiding her pursuit of the killer is recently reprimanded officer Rita Gibbons, fresh from the trailer park and described by Shelby as “half a licorice stick short in the manners department.” But Rita’s plenty smart, even when this case takes their suspicious minds in an entirely unexpected direction.

Snake Eyes Release Day Blitz Review with Melissa Pearl

Snake Eyes
By Melissa Pearl
January 30, 2015

Caitlyn Davis expects her sophomore year at UCLA to be perfect...until she walks into her dorm room to find Special Agent Zoey Kaplan of the FBI waiting for her. In that instant, she knows her idyllic year with new best friends, Nicole and Dale, along with her super hot boyfriend, Eric, is about to fall apart.

Having been forced to work with the FBI months earlier, Caity accidentally gave away her special ability to read people's emotions and know whether they were telling the truth. Now, Kaplan wants Caity to go undercover again for a secret operation that will bring her close to the sadistic Diego Mendez, a man believed to be involved in human trafficking.

Eric Shore is not a man who trusts easily. Having been burned multiple times, it’s hard for him to open up completely, but his love for Caity makes him want to try. Yet, her sudden withdrawal worries him, particularly when she chooses to spend time with her new roommate, Quella Mendez, over him. When Caity’s behavior begins to match that of her wild roommate, Eric wonders if their relationship is as strong as he believed.

As Caity struggles to maintain her relationship and do her job, she finds herself pulled further into a dangerous world that could take away everything she holds dear. Will Eric learn the truth in time to save her? Or will the man with the eyes of a snake destroy their perfect romance?

My Thoughts:

Snake Eyes is the third book in the Masks Series. In this series, Caitlyn Davis has been given a special gift where she is able to take off the masks of other people and see their emotions. In this episode of the series agent Kaplan of the FBI coerces Caitlyn into helping herself a sex trafficking case by threatening her boyfriend with an unsavoury character from her fathers past .

Caitlyn doesn't get paid for her work with the FBI yet she's put into physical danger. Just as she was planning on moving in with her boyfriend into an apartment off campus Kaplan bursts into her life and tells her that she can't do that and must stay in her dorm room on campus. Kaplan works things so that Caitlyn rooms with a girl named Quella who happens to be the daughter of a sex trafficker who is the suspect in Kaplan's case. Not only that but Caitlyn less keep everything a secret from her friends and from her boyfriend especially.

The story is told from both Caitlin's and Eric's point of view. The chapters tend to alternate between the two. I like this because it gave us the different points of view of the same situation.

There was lots of action, tension, and suspense in this plot twisted story. However, if you're hoping for a resolution by the end of this book you'll be sadly disappointed. This one ends as a cliffhanger. You'll have to find out what happens in the next book.

I would rate this book as adult themed due to the swearing in the book and the sexual scenes contained here-in.

For those who like mysteries I would recommend this book. I rated it four stars out of five.

Thank you to the publishers for providing a copy of this book in exchange for fair and honest review. A positive review was not required. All thoughts are my own.
